At the China-Arab Media Forum in April, China’s Special Representative for Darfur Liu Guijin, laid out what he called his ‘coherent response’ to the question “why do events in Darfur have anything to do with the Olympics?” Liu’s response contains several misconceptions about the intentions of NGOs, such as Human Rights First, that criticize China’s role in Sudan. Dockworkers Called on to Stop Chinese Arms Shipment to Zimbabwe
Voice of America - 4/21/2008
China is attempting to deliver weapons cargo to the abusive Mugabe regime in Zimbabwe during a heated election crisis in the country. The Chinese ship carrying weapons delivery for Zimbabwe left its anchorage outside the South African port of Durban on Friday after a court granted activists a temporary order preventing the weapons from being shipped to Zimbabwe through Durban, South Africa. The ship, An Yue Jiang, is carrying some three million rounds of small arms ammunition, 3,500 mortars and mortar tubes and 1,500 rocket propelled grenades. The Chinese ship is now being tracked but there is little information on where it was planning to dock. Sources allege that the ship was headed for Mozambique or Angola. The International Transport Workers Federation ITWF is rallying its labor bodies in Africa to not allow the Chinese arms ship to dock. The ITWF has already prevented the ship from docking in Maputo, Mozambique. Labor bodies in Angola are now lobbying to prohibit the ship form docking in Luanda, Angola.

The Strategy Page - 4/1/2008
New satellite photos reveal that the Sudanese Air Force has recently received A-5S bomber planes and F-7 fighter jets from China’s Nanhang Aircraft Company. Exports of these A-5 bombers go back to the 1980s and were also exported from China to other abusive states such as N.Korea and Burma. However, the new photos apparently reveal that Sudan has obtained new bomber planes from China as recently as a few years ago, thus discrediting China’s claim that it has not exported such weapons to Sudan.

Investing in Tragedy: China's Money, Arms and Politics in Sudan
Huffington Post - 3/26/2008
"Last week the Chinese foreign ministry dismissed the findings of a new Human Rights First report that identified China as the single largest provider of small arms to Sudan, promising the world that its arms sales are "always highly prudent." If $55 million in small arms sales to a country orchestrating mass atrocities in Darfur constitutes prudence, one must really question China's intended effect." Read More
